I treated my love like a locket
That I kept close to me
I guarded my secret so that
No one else could see
I didn’t see you comin’
Didn’t know I should be runnin’
What’s left of me’s in pieces
Pieces on the ground
Pieces of the man I was
Before you let me down
I believed in love
Until you came around
Now all I am is a man
In pieces on the ground
I thought I learned my lesson
Guess I’m just naïve
I put my blinders on and
Didn’t know when to leave
I didn’t see you going
I had no way of knowing
What’s left of me’s in pieces
Pieces on the ground
Pieces of the man I was
Before you let me down
I believed in love
Until you came around
Now all I am is a man
In pieces on the ground
I remember pieces
Of the man I used to be
I wonder if anyone else
Will see that part of me
More than just pieces
Pieces on the ground
Pieces of the man I was
Before you let me down
I believed in love
Until you came around
Now all I am is a man
In pieces on the ground
A little interesting trivia about this song. The song is called "Pieces" and ironically, it came together in pieces. I wrote the chorus, and then the first verse, and then the bridge, and then the second verse. It's the first time that I ever wrote a song "out of order..." but you just do what feels right, and this song sort of wrote itself.
